September is filled with about a million things on our family calendar. Including to getting back to School year habits, cross country, lacrosse, hockey, media group, new job responsibilities, campaign functions, my list it or flip it operation… and I decided the need to be involved with two separate challenges.
The first Challenge is the 28-day Story Athlete Challenge. A jump start to help strengthen an individual’s Mind, Body, Business and Relationships… stay tuned for more about this.
The Second challenge – 100 burpee’s a day for 30 days straight… at first glance, one might think this is a physical challenge… but 10 days and 1000 burpees in, I have found it is a mind challenge
Will I finish today?
How do I compare to the other 26 people in the challenge?
Will I struggle?
How much will I struggle?
Do I feel aches and pains starting?
Can I do it later?
One of the books I’m currently reading is “The Alter Ego Effect” by Todd Herman. The concepts Todd tackles in the book are multi-faceted and I urge everyone to read this one…
The gist of the book is what story do tell ourselves about who we are… And the idea that we can change these stories by summoning the characteristics of our favorite hero’s… or villains in the appropriate times in our lives.
Our Alter Ego
In the book, Todd suggests using a trigger to realize the NEW identity you are using.
This might be glasses (non-prescription) to feel smart, or your favorite pair of underoos to feel like superman or wonder woman.
I am one of 27 people that started the fight against ourselves to finish these 3000 burpees in 30 days…
I have taken to my stopwatch as being my trigger to find my heroic self for the burpee challenge. I can pay attention to the watch, so I know if I’m improving from the day or week before instead of asking myself “Why in the hell did you agree to this torture”
No matter how much you try to avoid them, Life is filled will challenges. Most people want to live the “simpler life”…
I have taken the opposite view and have decided to seek out these challenges to make me a better human.
To have a stronger mind…
To have a stronger body…
To have a stronger business…
And to Have Stronger relationships with everyone I come in contact with.
I will Become my heroic self… my alter ego!
