I already really alluded to it yesterday in https://www.facebook.com/markborst1/posts/10217921910413906 that the only way to defeat your opponent is to practice.
Practice by yourself, with your team… it doesn’t really matter.
At practice, there is only one thing to compare You to…. You.
Did I work harder today than I did yesterday?
Did I learn from yesterday’s failures?
Did I learn from yesterday’s successes?
Did I work as hard as I could have?
Did I live up to my heroic self vs my lessor self?
Has this ever happened to you… you hear things, sayings or quotes, and you nod yes, yes I get it… and then someone says it a little different or adds a twist to it and suddenly it smacks you in the face.
OH, NOW I GET IT.
I have heard and probably even repeated the idea of 1% greater daily.
For some reason, it never really sunk in.
If I stop worrying about the Joneses… are they smarter, stronger, or more beautiful… is their business bigger, better, different!
Instead… What if I stay in my lane and continue to grow.
“Did I do everything I could today to reach my North Star?”“Did I do the Heroic or Hard thing… or settle for the Lesser or lazy self?”
For a long time, I had the belief that I “DESERVED” to relax, because I put in my dues.
What I’m realizing that in order to be happy, to be LIVING a Life worth living…
I need to continually SUFFER, in order to continuously grow and expand my capacity.
If I want to become a better human, I need to work on my mind, body, relationships, and business all simultaneously not in silos.
A couple of weeks ago, I talked about taking up a challenge of running a spartan trifecta in 2020 https://www.facebook.com/markborst1/posts/10217827869462941
This is going to be a huge challenge for me, not only physically, but mentally for sure… but I look at the rest of the group, some older, some younger, some much less fit, and some much more fit…
And I realized that suffering to reach a goal with others to look up to, while others may look up to me as they struggle may be the greatest benefit of all… the building of relationships.
As a group, we have decided to start training now for our 2020 challenge.
First task… 100 Burpee’s A Day for the month of September. 1 set of 100 or 100 sets of 1. With the goal to get to at least 30 in a row to prepare for the spartan penalty!
You vs You creates a better version of today and is always harder to kill!
